Dumb question but will a Wrangler TJ soft top fit on a YJ?

Actually it can be done. Hell of a faf though. You swap out the spreader bars (windscreen to roll bar) for TJ ones, which allows the windscreen to tilt back to a TJ angle, the roof then fits.

You also need TJ door uppers due to the windscreen angle.
