YJ Wrangler 4 litre, stock as a rock... work begins...
« on: June 05, 2012, 06:12:44 AM »

Picked up this little gem recently, its very original, everything works well, paint work faded in places, has seen a few lanes...

Cracking lane this one, and only half a mile from our house...

Front chassis legs need some love, so I've stripped front end off, found good metal around the bad area's so hopefully an easy repair...

Then I'll be fitting 31" 10.5 Discovery STT's as they have excellent off road abitilty and on road is excellent. Ripped a sidewall out on BF AT's on a log, looks like the tyres are so old the walls have no strength in them, shame as plenty of tread... cant be doing with tyres failing, I have some 32" STT's so will sell them to fund the new tyres...

Then some lanes and gentle punch hunts, plus will use as a daily, it drives really nice and the old springs are just right, who needs coils? haha...

Really really impressed with this....

At first you think its a box section welded in, nope.... each side and the bottom has been lipped over into the chassis and then the top plate is a cover, more strength to be added, really chuffed with this, proper happy!

As ever happy days!

Nah they can stay as is... its a stock truck and everything is just right on it, I'm looking forward to getting it back on the road/lanes (hopefully this week). Fabricator is doing a bit more belt and braces on the n/s then the o/s needs some work but not as bad, just the steering box complication to sort... then bolt everything back on and crack on, bought some brand new 31" Discovery STT's, kept them on retro wheels (the modulars are 8" and stick the tyres out to far).

Pics of repair....

Looks like a box section welded in, but each plate has been lipped into chassis onto good metal, then the sides then a cover plate on the top and then an over plate on the outside, holes where LHD steering box was now gone and proper sleeved holes for the RHD conversion, shame it was never done right in the first place...

Red oxide first...

Then stone chip...

Finished:

Bought 31" STT's, delivered from stock within an hour from Plymouth! Happy days...

Sold my Jag on Saturday, gutted, so had to crack on and get front back on, three hours later....
