Diff Problem- Rednexx at Todmorden?
« on: August 10, 2012, 05:04:05 PM »

Can anyone please help

2005 Grand Cherokee 5.7 Hemi (45,000 miles)

Yesterday the ABS,ESP,BAS lights came on and 4wd system requires service came up on the digital read out, at the same time i noticed a single clunk noise when I reach 10-12 mph for the first time after starting the Jeep. It won't do it again during that run. However, if I stop, turn off the Jeep, turn it back on and reach 10-12 mph again, I'll hear the same noise (its seems to be coming from rear/bottom of the Jeep)

I have checked the resistance of the ABS sensors and they are all ok

I fear it is getting worse and could be the diff, its definately coming from the back and gets worse at slow speed round corners there is a clunk & it feels like its crabbing

I had some work done a few years ago by a guy called Mik at Rednexx in Todmorden and he was brilliant but i cannot find any reference to him on the Web. Does anyone know if he is still trading?

Im terrified at the thought of taking it to the Jeep Dealer

???

Firstly I believe Mick has moved abroad & not traded for a couple of years.

Have you thought that it could be electrical instead ? Have you tried disconnecting the battery for 5 minutes & seeing if it does the usual reset of most things ?

Sorry to hear Mik isnt available

Thanks .... I have tried disconnecting the battery ...but its definately mechanical and sounds serious sounds like a gearwheel skipping

looks like it will have to be the dealer ...god knows what they will charge for a diff rebuild

I don't know your part of the country but there are some Jeep specialists spread around the UK. I know some southern and Midlands ones, the most northern is peak district. If a dealer can give you a solid diagnosis you might be best getting the work done elsewhere, even if getting the Jeep there costs you a bit.

Thanks James

It may be worth me ringing some of these recommended indepedants or diff specialists to see if they have the Jeep software to do the diagnoisis & reset the ABS warning lights

my concern is that if i put it in the dealership they are likely to rip it apart then tell me how much its going to hurt to put it together again

I need to do something in the next couple of days ...& not sure whats the best option

is there anyone like Mik (Rednex) that builds comp diffs & would a 2005 hemi be something new to them or are all the diffs much the same?
