assuming its a XJ like in your avatar and you just want to change a bulb then its a dash pod out and bulb fits from rear, but the OP is not that clear so not sure what it is you want to do

Not a problem with questions mate, think Rich was just suggesting you might find a manual useful for detailed help when taking bits & pieces apart  :icon_winkle:

Ask away & we will always try & help  :icon_winkle:

take off wood trim under the console, take off trim surrounding clocks. this should show the cluster of lights to the right hand side of the clocks your interested in. the cluster is only held in by self tapping screws. remove cluster and change bulb from the back.

refit is the opposit of removal but that should be fairly simple

Can be a dirty switch or contacts on the transfer case rather than a blown bulb

Underneath the car you have a tranfer case, the bit where the front & rear prop shafts go into.

There will be electrical connectors & wiring attached to the transfer case which can get covered in muck & or be damaged. These connectors tell the dashboard lights what to show (different coloured lights), if they are not clean or damaged this will mean the lights wont work properly, even though the car will switch between full & part time 4WD or 2WD.

Have a look underneath & see if there is anything obvious  :icon_winkle:
