rear discs on xj
« on: September 23, 2012, 12:50:50 PM »

been searching but cant find the answer. I seem to recall i heard somewhere that you can fit zj rear disc brakes on a cherokee. I just happen to have a knackered axle from a zj here.
Has anyone on here done this ? what exactly do i need to do the job, parts wise ? How long a job is it ? hope someone can help

I've done this. About 4 hours at an easy pace. Didn't bother with abs though.
Needs slight brake pipe mods shouldn't need flaring tool unless old pipes are fooked.
Pull halfshafts and swop back plates over.
Swop wheel studs as zj ones are longer.
I made a different handbrake compensator and used zj cables, not ideal as their too short really, but as it only gets used at mot time it doesn't bother me.

cheers for that info. funnily i tried one of my zj 16" wheels on the cherokee yesterday to check for rub and thought the studs were a little short

the studs can be swapped with a hammer and  block of wood

looked like the offset was different on the zj wheels so maybe not useable on the cherokee anyway
