Tips for Dana 44 axle shaft removal

Guys,
Any tips for removing the axle shafts from a Dana 44, I need to remove them to install the locker. Do you have to use a slide hammer? How much of the brake assembly has to be removed.

remove brake drum pop out core plug remove 3/8 bolts securing back plate and bearing put brake drum on in reverse wheel nuts on backwards about half way then use brake drum as slide hammer
