I can now claim Built Not Bought
I actually got my hands dirty wielding these strange bits of metal (spanners i believe)
Flex-a-lite fan fitted, header tank had to be moved - pleased with my new bracket
Then came the belly up stuff
Teraflex skid plate - thanks to QM2 for brining back from the land of jeep

which needed the SYE

with a new Tom Woods Propeller shaft

whilst under the truck - note Cheapfest mud and and (how does one say) dung still present
bit concerned with the bent (don't think it was me) sump

is this normal/OK?

Good choice I say on mods to do  :greggmo:

They were the first mods I done on my truck many moons ago.

The dent in the sump is not normal no, doesnt look too bad but Im not sure where the oil pick up is situated, (lots of guys on here will most likely know and am sure will be along soon  :greggmo:) as to if would cause a problem in the future.

pick up is elsewhere front I think but in middle so you're OK...... Nice bit of spannering tho....... In a white T-shirt again? :hysterical:

not a problem wildwood i was a little tiddly to notice - with vehicle like yours are you going to the J33P thing a 7 sisters
I'm getting lopsided drivers seat fixed as well as I'm driving all the way up to the lake district on Friday 5th Oct to do the Gatesgarth pass

Talked  to Cuffy about this at CF....... Maybe things might change in thE future :icon_biggrin:

Maybe  Tixover on Sunday........tis only 26 miles away and £25 so affordable........ Unless  Noah's Ark needed :hysterical:

The reason they trailer is so they can get home if they break anything, especially since they like challenging courses / events.

Also, there is less wear and tear, due to the lack of highway driving.

WillO, it would be good if it could be reviewed. I understand maybe using the MOT as a form of scrutineering but tax is a bit unneccessary. Insurance might be debatable.

The trailering is a major stress relief for if something breaks and makes the drive to and from the event much more comfortable and relaxing. It also saves loads on maintenance costs like tyre wear and the self destruction of parts by driving hundreds of miles home from an event when they're acked with mud.

Im prepared to concede ground and will look at investin in a recovery truck to go to events wiv the Chief on the back but i think trailers should be banned on the basis the owners and users are clearly deranged

I will raise the questions as i understand where you are coming from. It should be noted that some of the top challenge organisers ask for tax mot and insurance as a basic requirement.

As regards top challenge stuff and the like...... if more KOV stuff happens .......and I seriously hope it does then vehicles like that will not be MOT fodder especially if brought in from the US as Ultra 4 or whatever.......

personally I have no axe to grind cos I have no sponsorship or back up team and could never afford the. Entrance fees and countrywide transport on a regular basis......but there are some events I would like to do that I used to do....such as Seven Sisters and Tong to name two.....

personally I consider on site scrutineering to be more important than MOT....how many events have we seen where
Some did brings a wreck with MOT and fucks around knowing that on Monday it get weighed in?

if the event is not on public roads then its on Private property so Road tax issue is bollix.

if you are insured for road use I doubt if your insurer will cover you for rolling into a tree off road.......even if you do have spendy Flux or equivalent insurance.....just watch the feckers run as you try to make a claim.

Just my 2 cents worth and of course I'm not biased in the slightest :hysterical:

All joking aside, there seem to be different issues being discussed here:

Jez, would like to come to seven sisters but can't cos he has no mechanical link ergo no mot,

James wondering what level of road worthyness is required to come to events as he like me would ideally like to trailer and perhaps negate some of the costs if the car is sorn.

Then there is Steve who is just sticking his oar in coz thats what he does best.

I have said i will look into it which i have, and at the moment the basic reply for vehicles to need tax mot and insurance is a) to get the cost of insurance down and ultimately the cost of the event to the members. And b) for the compa that I do ( yes the multiple day top end ones) there is a need for all of this as there are transit sections between areas of site that take place on the road.
Believe you me I'd love to see Jez in action at Seven sisters especially up those rocks, and we will be reviewing our pli to see if we can accomodate trucks like Jez.

Though i also believe that if you have a friendly mot tester, any mechanical link will suffice .........

Its an important issue that we need to address, but it will be in the best interest of the club and all of its members.

The problem with this is, then how do we regulate the scruitineers. And make the insurance companys happy that the level of scruitineering is correct and is always adhered to??....for example IF an accident occurs. The beauty of the MOT is that it IS a nationally recognised standard to which insurance companys understand.

You will get dweebs whatever you do but they tend to weed themselves out. If there was no need for tax mot and insurance you'd get even bigger numpty's bringing more dangerous cars than you do now, a bit like at a pay and play at slindon. Its like some pikeys mad max mania. Not good

Scrutineering is either to MOT or MSA blue book levels from what I understand from a brief discussion I had today with a colleague who has been rallying for 30+ years. anywhere in between is a potential world of arguments and problems
