TJ front seat question
« on: October 21, 2012, 01:21:19 PM »

When I tip the driver seat forwards, the back moves but also the seat base lifts up and moves forward too. Doesn't happen on the passenger side though, just the back moves but the base stays put. Is this normal or should I start an investigation?

FFnnarrrr! I'll give it a loob job, see if that helps. It does slide forwards easily enough, just doesn't seem to release at the end of its travel.

The cable linking the upper and lower parts of the seat may have snapped. If you look under the front of the seat you should be able to see a lever you can push down to allow the seat base to tip forward. Mine has snapped on my drivers seat in the past and I fixed it with pedal bike cables. It's just gone again recently and I haven't got round to fixing it again yet. It's a seat out job to do it.

Fixed the very same thing on my passenger side this weekend!
There is a cable that operates the little release lever under the seat when the seat back moves forward. On mine, it had simply come out of the locating lug on the seat back hinge, so with some fiddly pokery (Inc seat out and coverings stripped back) I relocated the cable end in the lug and all seems to be working fine...
