xj hubs
« on: December 02, 2012, 06:21:13 PM »

Today i found that the hubs off of a xj orvis running 16in wheels have a bigger flange on the face and longer wheel studs than an xj with 15in wheels. Also they are about 5 mil narrower. I only noticed this when i was bolting the wheels back on after swapping axles and i had changed one of the hubs because of the play in the wheel bearing. And it is staying like it for now as I have run out off time trying to get it ready for turkey hunt.

It's got nothing to do with wheel size. the design changed mid 1999 production to allow solid instead of composite brake discs to be fitted. If uou have late hubs, you need the correct brake discs or the disc wont sit centrally in the brake caliper.

Mike I have a late 2000 xj and take it that it works the other way around as well, or will the calliper centre itself. At the moment I have late discs with one late hub and one early hub, I do have early discs if i need to swop one over. The callipers are all the same though aren't they.
