Hi,

I've read a couple of things about the Cherokee XJ axle being stronger than the wrangler TJ axle.

I'm running 34" swampers on my punch hunt truck, I intend to run Aussie lockers front and rear as per previous Cherokees and a wrangler YJ that I had.

Can anyone say how much better the XJ axle is and should I crack on and swap over?

I can get an XJ axle locally from vitman, and since I have 4.56 gearing for an XJ it all points that way...

As ever thanks in advance Maf

The reverse cut crown wheel and pinion is stronger that is found in the earlier XJ,s. It,s the high pinion Dana30, that is the only part that is stronger

ditch the junk 30. XJ or not and find a 44. When I first got my TJ it had 34" Jungle Trekkers on it and I was forever busting shafts and R&P's like Robbs has said the XJ High Pinion D30 is a bit stronger but not much.

17% stronger actually but the HP30 is only of use on the front application, on the rear the reverse cut makes it weaker!!

Thanks guys.

I run HD UJ's, only ever busted one shaft and that was my fault for seeing red and using too much power on steep rocky section, didn't have a winch then so wouldn't push so hard, I'm not a floor it and see driver so for now will continue with standard TJ axles.

Will also mean I can sell front and rear 4.56 gearing for XJ and YJ's and then put towards TJ lower gearing, might go for 4.88 this time.

Cheers Maf
