Quick question axle shafts.
« on: April 11, 2013, 05:37:02 PM »

Right I've put the shafts back in as I have changed the u joints.

Everything went back in the same way it can out.

When it in 2wd drive if I spin the wheel should the other be turning aswell?

If so should it be turning the same way?

When I put in 4wd if I turn the wheel the other wheel turns the opposite way.

If front is in the air and rear on the ground. In 2WD the front drive shaft is disconnected so you will find the driveshaft probably rotates rather than the other wheel. In 4WD the drive shaft is held in place and the opposite wheel will rotate the opposite direction if an open diff. If the front diff were locked the front wheels would both turn the same way.

Ok. Yeah if spin the driver side wheel forwards to other wheel goes reverse but the driveshaft turns the right way.

So there nothing to worry about then.

Assuming you dont have lockers or LSD fitted, Jack ONE front wheel up, select 2WD and turn the wheel in the air, the Propshaft should spin. Select 4wd and try to turn the wheel again, it should only turn a little before it locks up. If thats what happens, all is OK  :icon_winkle:
