I'm feeling quite pleased with myself today... Boris, the Cherokee XJ that I bought unseen from Blackcop burst into life this morning... He had a very badly cracked head and so I decided that the best option was a replacement which Maff kindly supplied... I stripped down the head, reground the valves and fitted the new head with new gaskets and valve seals.... I drained the oil which had so much water in it, it looked like caramel, there was a good pint of liquid water in the sump before the oil came out.... Since I was changing the oil on my van, I decided to flush the engine with the old 0W-30 and then drain down again, fit a new filter and refill with some multigrade that I had in the shed.... I'll change again after a few hundred miles for decent oil and a new filter.
I'd like to say that he fired up first turn of the key but I fitted the HT leads 180 degrees out.. Doh! but it did give the oil time to get round the engine.... Leads on right and he sounds very sweet indeed.... So on with the front panel, and see what I can do with the aircon...
Then it is time to turn my attention to fitting new discs and pads and addressing the trackbar issue..Oh and fitting the upper control arms..... and sorting the anti roll bar that I found in the boot....and fitting the LPG
