Hi all, after putting up with my jeep ticking for a couple of months i decided to tighten the flex plate bolts 2 would not budge but 2 went about a quarter of as turn and as if by magic the noise went. But now the noise is back and them bolts are proper tight so i presume i may have a cracked plate i am gonna remove the box and fit another flex plate, i would like to fit new bolts while i am in there does anyone know what size the bolts are.also where can i get the proper power steering fluid these days as my dealer just gives me a dumb look and a shrug of the shoulders and some expletives about petronas. thanks, mick.

they are bolted into a fixed nut, remove one and get it sized

If it is the flex plate, get it done! I didn't & ended up putting a box & torque convertor in mine when the plate let go & destroyed everything!

Hi I had a disaster with flex plate bolts myself. I got replacements from JNL Engineering (a VM engine specialist in Camberley). They cost £0.60 each last year, and are special in that the head is very thin. Carriage cost me £6 but should be cheaper as I had more stuff ordered. JNL part no. 4.190.1407F   Shane was guy I spoke to. 01276 63278 Good luck. I'm assuming you have 3.1 VM engine.

just to update the post, i removed the box today changed the flex plate replaced the box started it up only to hear the same noise and another one like something rubbing on the flex plate so i packed up and sat on my arse and had a beer.. is it possible the crank position sensor is touching the flex plate, and what else could this annoying ticking be . any help appreciated

CPS would surely wear itself away till it was only just rubbing wouldn't it? That said  get someone to slowly turn the motor over (enter usual precautionary note here) and look for a shiny section of flex plate in line with where the cps would catch, no shiny stripe = problem elsewhere I'd guess.
I had the vanes come away from the inside of the torque converter after about my first week of Jeep ownership, or in other words I found out why it was so cheap to buy, that makes a ghastly grinding noise when turned over by hand and you can even hear bits and pieces tinkling about inside the converter. I hope you haven't got anything like that!
