Think you will find that 2.4's are as rare as rocking horse shit.

Are you sure it is the fuel pump? I seem to recall an electrical sound when mine was switched off, I'm sure the oil pump and/or the coolant pump continue to aid cooling.

And it's a 2.5, not a 2.4.
Not being argumentative, but I'm fairly sure you could get a 2.4 petrol in KJs, there just aren't that many about.

You are quite right Bryn..you could get a 2.4 petrol in a KJ, but I wasn't aware that they continued into the 2005 model (I'm ready to be corrected tho').

According to the bible, the 2.4 was dropped in 2005..if it turns out that you actually have a 2.5crd, then I have a pretty good idea what that noise is.

My neighbour has a 2005 model 2.4 petrol manual, which he has owned for 5 years now. He bought it just after I bought my 2005 2.8crd auto, which I kept for 3 years before getting a JK.
I do recall hearing the liquid movement noise after turning off the ignition, which I assumed was the fluids draining back to the bottom of the engine / transmission etc, or to ensure that the engine doesn't overheat - the fan also continued to operate for a while after as well.

I do remember way back when we first got the XJ, I did notice that it made a liquid-like noise for a little bit after shutting it off - I think it might have been from the fuel tank area when it was relatively full. I rarely more than 2/3 fill it now though, so haven't noticed it lately.
And being an XJ it's probably completely different anyway
