Something missing from the horn!
« on: August 03, 2013, 10:59:46 PM »

Hi all. This is my first Jeep and my first post here. I bought myself a '93 xj a few weeks ago and discovered the horn didn't work. Having now investigated, it seems like something is missing from the mechanical arrangement in the steering wheel contact. If i ground the contact at the bottom of the hole, the horn sounds. Can someone tell me what the missing part is from the picture? The first one is just the centre cover removed, then the top part removed to show the spring plate, then the spring plate removed to show the empty hole with the 12v contact at the bottom. I'm guessing it might be a spring?? Thanks!!

Hi mate, yes, it's a small spring & a small metal cylinder that's missing.

Thought so. Is there a mk1 xj parts catalogue available anywhere? I can only find the later model. Would stop me asking stupid questions about missing bits!

Found one. Something weird going on here. Gonna remove the steering wheel and find out why one of the screw threads has been drilled out to see the 12v contact.
