97 TJ gearbox
« on: August 14, 2013, 10:12:47 PM »

I am in urgent need of some quality Jeep knowledge. My daughter's 97 TJ 4 litre manual has started jumping out of first gear every time it is used. Is it a AX15 unit, what other boxes will fit and who has one and how much? Many thanks in advance, Tim.

Before you swap the box, did you try changing the oil..??

To be honest, I haven't changed the oil. The gear started jumping out one day and never looked back. Even if you hold it in gear it jumps out.  I guess the 1st gear baulk ring has fractured, but she can't afford to have the TJ off the road while we wait for USA shipments.
Surely ever other Birty has a spare gearbox lurking at the back of their sheds, come on guys, you don't understand the grief I am getting from daughter and mother!!
Regards,
           Tim.

Isn't that a symptom of a warped flywheel or was that all bollocks from MDG
