Transmission problems
« on: September 21, 2013, 07:45:03 PM »

Maybe I've been lucky, but 15 years of owning 4.0 ltr Jeeps never had an issue with the gearbox. (Apart from a leaking torque converter seal). Now my 03 WJ engine has check light  on and showing code p1762. Feels like its pulling away in second. Code points to solenoid fail but two questions to those that know.  I have a 200 mile round trip planned tomorrow, mainly motorway. Am I likely to feck things further and how much are these solenoids.  :jpshakehead:

When my WJ box was playing up I stripped the solinoid and gave it a good clean especially the plug. I found a cracked spring which was sorted.

Oil change done as well,

But my actual fault was the TPS, don't rule this out as a few of us had box issues caused by the TPS.

I towed back from mid france with a big ass caravan whilst mine was playing up and no long term issues at all.

Been perfect for last 2yrs now TPS changed.

Thanks for that Jay. Gave me the confidence to make the trip and guess what. Started up for the return journey, no check light and box changing sweet as a nut all the way home. Sticky spring? bit of crap? who knows. Just thankful I haven't got that job to do. Suns still shining so out in the garden.  :icon_jook:

Change the TPS, trust me.

5min job, cheap part to obtain and 99% sure it will sort it out given it was ok again.

Its exactly how mine was, and Jedi's on here. Plus there was another chap who had same issue and was TPS.
