Axle Problems
« on: October 06, 2013, 05:01:44 PM »

Hi all,

Got a pretty standard TJ 2.5l, Rear diff been noisy for a while but not losing any oil that I could see.
Driving back from Belle Vue auction last week and it had really started to make some noise like metal rattling about and I had oil all over hard top rear window and tail gate.
I got back and put it on ramps of mates garage, no hole in diff but it is corered in oil and fine metal.
What have I done and how expensive is it to fix.

Ive not got a quote from a garage yet and wondering if it is something I could do myself.
Another mate mentioned it could be easier to replace the full axle.

Any advice most welcome.

If you can find one get a new/used axle is it a job you can do. make sure you get a 4.10 axle
a diff rebuild is a job you need to know what you are doing

Cheers Gents,
Bought a CRV to get about in as in middle of a house renovation and need wheels to pull trailer.

Guess I will have to start seeing who has an axle for sale.

Go the rebuild route, you know its done properly then.

Kev aka Sheriff bubba re-built & re-geared both of my TJ axles after rear bearing failed. He has all the specialist equipment & has done a a good few for folks on here & other Jeep clubs, drop him a PM.

Good luck
