2001 grand cherokee ltd 4ltr LPG
« on: October 16, 2013, 11:10:15 AM »

Hi guys,

I'm hoping one I you has the knowledge to help me save my Jeep.  It's been off the road now for a month.  Th crank shaft sensor went and I bought a new one from this forum.  It was installed by the auto-electrician however for some reason the jeep fires up but after about 8 seconds it cuts out.  The electrician says he doesn't think its a programming issue but he's at the point that he's going to send me away.  The jeep isn't towable so I'm in a tricky situ.

Would any of you know why it is cutting out?

Is it worth running the on-board diagnostic?

Anyone in the Edinburgh area available to help out?

Anything you can suggest would be a great help.

Thanks,

Mark

ps.  It also loses coolant,  I was wondering if maybe that's so low that it's automatically cutting out.  I haven't mentioned this to the auto-electrician as he's away for a few days.  Could that be it?  I'm thinking he would've seen the sensor inside the cab but maybe not?

Cheers

buy an OBD2, I just got a bluetooth unit for under a tenner and it identified an intermittent fault that occasionally pops up, it will tell you whats happening in real time plus let you read any fault codes.

I could  come over to Edinburgh at the weekend and maybe I could help but I am no expert  but I do have an obd scanner and can read the fault codes.I have some knowledge of the 4.0 engine just through my own experience with owning them.
If I were you I would start with the basics. What fuel are you starting the engine on is there fuel in the tanks. Switch it over to petrol and try starting on petrol this should  eliminate any LPG faults.
Let me know if I can help.

if it's an lpg running problem have you drained the oil in the vaporizer
there's a little screw on the bottom

I'm not sure if it an LPG problem or not.  It's cutting out after 8secs so the LPG wouldn't have kicked in by then.  I'll get him to switch it off anyhow just in case.

Thanks for the help.

Mike I've PMd you.

Cheers,

Mark

On the scary side my wife want rid of the jeep and wants a normal car.  I need counselling.
