Thought the play in wheel was bearing but movement still present after replacement. So after removing diff cover and dropping diff out the one plate wheel has a lot of movement which is causing the half shaft to move too. Cam any one lical to stourbridge Bromsgrove or Redditch suggest anywhere to get checked out and rebuilt?

How exactly does the play at the wheel manifest itself ?




But from what you are saying it sounds like the discs or thrust washer in the lsd is breaking up or simply shot to shit

Ive not seen it but it apparantly feels like a wheel bearing play. However seen the play in diff. When you look at the half shaft in the diff the sun wheel is moving. Without the shaft in there is a lot of play in that sun wheel.

I think possible the thrust washers shot or even wear  but i would not be certain as I am no great mechanic lol im torn berween getting an axle from a breaker or getting this diff rebuilt but I have no idea on costs of a rebuild to be honest...

Would you be able to get pics ?      there should be no play in the wheel bearing if its new  the only play you generaly get problem with at the rear is on the dana 35c on yj xj zj as the 35c alows for a good amont of in and out movement giving a healthy clunk

a lot of garages mistake this for a problem but its normal


but a wj should be a dana 44A out back and they can have a varilock lsd  I dont know weather they all do or weather its just some

Im not sure if this helps but I had the same symptoms in the TJ with Truetrac, changed the wheel bearing symptoms still there, went into the diff and the Truetrac fell out, put the spool in with new carrier bearings and solved it. I dint think that wear in the carrier bearings would magnify enough to be seen at the wheel end but it seems thats what it was..

  to bubba... he looked confused for a while but diagnosed...know to repair. Wont know for definte until ld one stripped.. but it could be a manufacturing fault

Does anyone know what Bubba 'thinks' But I know he is a Jeep Diff Guru with a super dooper cake baking wife (believe me if you saw me you would know I like my cakes!!)

Considering a so called 'gearbox and transmission specialist' looked at it and said there was nothing wrong with it, it was only my conviction knowing something was not right that got me there! Now I'm over the moon knowing I was right but will be broke fixing it

Thank feck fir that, I'd Been nursing mine as I heard a noticeable clunk when I left a set of lights with a fair bit of commitment a while back.
