V8 engine stuff
« on: May 18, 2014, 01:33:43 PM »

Now here's a thing........ I've got to do something to alleviate the situation imposed cabin fever that is affecting my life at the moment.......sooooooo.

I am doing a manly V8 to sit in front of a TH400

Chev 454....... Whatever its condition......meant to be OK it's going to have a mild rebuild and all parts back to normal spec.......l
Been doing some mind numbing research on this, and leaving then as standard installing a flat tappet cam 0- 5,000. Together with some light head working gets a dyno proved 409 and 550 torques......

My question is do any of you know and could hand on heart recommend an engine shop for the honing grinding and stuff........

It know Tinterweb is there for info but then it's a gamble.

Thanks.......

My neighbour has a perfect 454 sitting in a restored K30.

Apparently the plan is to pull it and fit a diesel.

So I asked what he wanted for the 454.

A Grand.

OK says I the grand is in your hand as soon as you pull it.

That was four years ago and the K30 has just sat there ever since.

Give him a nudge Mr Juggler...... Would prefer one with all its bits still in a vehicle...

It won't happen I reckon.

The guy has probably worked out that his absolutely mint K30 is worth far more in original spec than if he bastardises it with a diesel engine.
Never uses the thing.
Just moves around his dad's garden.

Still wouldn't mind a good 454 myself especially a later fuel injected one.
An absolute doddle to fit into a FSJ.
Just need the Chevy pattern TH400 casing
