New exhaust query
« on: February 03, 2014, 01:53:26 PM »

Afternoon chaps. Now that I've fixed my exhaust manifold I'm keen to replace my dented and rattling exhaust back box.

I'm thinking about cutting out the current one and fitting a Thrush welded one. The trouble is that I can't find any with the right diameter in/outlets that have the outlets in the right position (centre in, offset out).

The question is: I've found one with the in/outlets in the right place, but they're 2 1/2" rather than 2 1/4". Would it be okay to fit an adapter on each end to match it up with the rest of the system, or would it sound worse because of it?

fit a cherry bomb, 3" diameter and 2 foot in length (min) quiet in the car with a nice burble outside. if the supplier is good then they will swayge the inlet and outlet to suit

Cheers guys.
Dave, I was very tempted by a cherrybomb, but I went with the Thrush as it's what I decided after months of YouTube research! :003:

When I kill it, which will inevitably happen, then I might try a cherrybomb!

Hi

I've been looking around for a new Exhaust for my 04 2.7 CRD WJ - after trawling through forums and ebay / gumtree I've decided to get a custom Stainless job made for it!!

My original exhaust has done 160K and is looking kinda ragged around the welds and support hangers, so gonna take the plunge

I offroad a wee Series 3 so use the Jeep to trailer it there etc, but I've had to rescue it a few times and the tailpipe is particularly vulnerable - so I've decided to allow the exhaust to exit through the 1/4 panel / bumper area behing the offside rear wheel - that'll keep it up out the road of any obstacles - the rest of the exhaust will be fabricated of 2 1/4" stainless due to it having a 2mm wall thickness, and then hung as high up as possible with the silencer offset to allow clearance and an integral skid plate fitted.

So planning to drop it off in a week or two for it!

OK I realise I have been a bit re-miss - and didn't update the exhaust progress - well it's all fitted and looking quite well!
