Big Problem
« on: January 01, 2015, 09:51:40 AM »

My WG 2.7 q/drive has developed a serious problem, it started with a drone from the front which I put down to a worn wheel bearing, I was going to wait till it got a bit warmer before I replaced it.  Yesterday I noticed that there is now a clunking on full lock both ways, sounds like a CV but it only does it for a few seconds then stops. Last night on the way home from work it got really bad, constant heavy, loud drone and a constant clicking that increases with speed.
At this point I am leaning towards the front diff, does anyone have any ideas?

Regards
Tom

it could be the front prop, the rear cv joint is made of cheese, take it off to eliminate that 1st

Front axle CV joint.  Check if the boot has split, if so water got in there and the balls are grinding themselves to a pulp.

Also turn full lock and move slowly forward. If you hear click, click, click its Bingo !!
