Pinion angle
« on: February 26, 2015, 06:56:07 PM »

I have a tranny drop kit on xj
Pinion angle 4* out
Opinions not sure whether to get shims and do them with drop kit or
Remove kit put tranny back up and go for re measure and get more ground clearance, but install larger shims, the latter seams better idea but will I be able to get rid of vibes with 4.5" lift with shims only ???

Have you considered higher engine mounts?

Hi Peter
Not sure there is room in XJ my k&n inlet touches the bonnet just as it is.
I know a SYE is answer but no funds for such extravagance at the moment
I might just shim the leaf's for the moment, to be fair it's not that bad just trying to sort a few niggles

There is always the 'Hack and Tap' variant of the SYE. Rubicon express used to do one......

i had 1" transmission drop plus 4 degree shims on the rear axle, no vibes.

downside there is no set rule as each vehicle will be different, maybe worth considering changing the prop ujs as these will not have been "profiled" by thousands of miles at one angle, changing the angle moves the wear surface due to the angle which could be the cause of the vibration (suggestion)

Worth a try with the shims first and then go RE Hack n Tap SYE with converted front driveshaft if shims don't work. I'd remove the transfer case drop but I suppose you could put it back in if the vibes didn't go with just the shims.

To be fair it's not that bad on the vibe front probably just get some 4deg shims then SYE when cash allows.
Just sorting stuff I know should be better and are not set right
I need some adjustable UCA for front pinion angle
Shackle relocation brackets rear is very firm
Trouble is done it all before on my old xj so I know what needs doing
Happy with the lift height so just need to source all bits to fine tune it's performance  :icon_winkle:

Took the drop kit off the tranny case today, it will have to go back on
Vibes at 30-40 fairly smooth after that
Engine vibes roar through engine mounts have gone though
Anyway front prop acquired so Has move up the shopping list so drop kit goes back on for the mo
Funny thing is I measured angles and the difference is 4 degrees same as with drop ????
