Are my edelbrock shocks good for a 3-3.5" lift??
« on: May 12, 2015, 01:09:00 AM »

This could be a very silly question but are red edelbrock shocks good for a 3-3.5" lift on my 94 xj? I am going to order a lift kit soon and i'm not sure if these shocks will be long enough, i'd rather not pay for them if i don't have to. Is that enough info  or will i need to pop one off and measure it?

Cheers, Gaz.

if they are designed for a standard jeep fitment then yes they will fit but off roading will be limited as the dampers will top out on articulation making the lift and articulation not work as intendedd

Cheers dave69, sorry i didn't mention they are already on the car and I suppose what I am asking is are they a standard shock or will they have the length to get the most out of a 3.5" lift? They don't look like a standard shock. I don't know the history of the car but it has bog standard springs and leafs but also trutrack lockers which has made me wonder whether they are part of a previous lift set-up.

They'll not be standard figment, but they'll most likely have been bought for standard spec Jeep. No point in spending good money on + dampers with no lift. As Dave said, they'll fit, I ran a 3" lift on standard shocks for a year on road, the rears where hitting the stops coming off speed bumps at walking pace, so not a good idea.

It was sold to a bloke in Essex, who then tried to resell it @ 3K on FB ! Or 2.5K on eBay, so could well be in that area now. Just DONT get on the wrong side of the light bars. :)
This is how it was when sold.

Took about 3 years to get to that stage, and it was a goodun when I bought it, never been off road at that stage.  If they're gonna be in water like that, I'd suggest high level axle/gearbox breathers, they where on the list as well as fitting the sliders, I never got to those. :)
