I think side lights are described as needing to be white or yellow if part of a yellow headlight. As long as you have white or yellow lights for the MOT additional lights are not part of the test. I have white LEDs in the headlights of my TJ and have the front amber lights wired in too, never been a problem even when stopped by VOSA a few years back.

I was told that if it faces forward it's got to be white.

Unless it's an indicator.

running front/side lights are not a MOT requirement but if fitted they all must work.

Modern cars must have front running lights now fitted.

Indicators must be orange and if illuminated they must be on constant unless operating. just a polarity or relay change to swap so that they will be normally off

I used to run amber side lights on my american vans with no problem and they passed a few mot's with them, on the jeeps I have always wired in a white sidelight into the headlamp to cover the issue you got.

Basically....

For an MoT you must have a pair of white sidelights (position lamps)
A pair of headlamps that dip to the left (or downwards if not E units)
A pair of main beams.
A pair of flashing amber indicators.

Apart from that, nothing on the front is testable, you can have amber running lights, or a string of fairy lights if you desire, as long as they don't interfere with the statutory lamps.

If in doubt, RTFM.....

My CJ has them too, but in combination with side lights in the headlamps, no MOT issues either

Coincidentally I just failed my NCT (MOT) yesterday on the YJ for having amber side parking lights. Its passed the test for the last 10 years and now he said he just spotted the fact that all parking lights should be white. My indicators on the fender are yellow when flashing and yellow when the main lights are on. I'm just going to disconnect them for the retest as I have indicators on the front and back. What a load of shiiiittttteeee. Failed last year first time becuase they never found the VIN number on chasisis. Europe just wants us driving 1.4 grey ford focus's.
