MOT reg questions
« on: April 08, 2016, 01:10:23 PM »

Just a couple of queries I hope someone can help with. I know the info is probably out on the net but sifting through crap to find it doesn't appeal at the moment.

1. Exhaust - Mine currently ends half way under the Jeep with a bit of a down turn. Does the exhaust pipe have to exit the side or rear of the vehicle and what is the guidance on this? Running a pipe to rear or side will be a custom job and not just a case of buying a stock exhaust and fitting it - if it was that simple I would have done that.

2. Fuel tank - mine is a stock tank but moved so it now sites in the rear of the Jeep where the rear bench seat would have been. Is this acceptable for MOT? It's inside the cabin area in a sense which seems a bit dodgy. There is a thin metal divider behind the front seats but only a truck cab style tonneau soft top covering the top of the tank so no solid divide between driver / passenger and fuel tank. I think Clayt / Asylum did this mod and I think this YJ of mine has been MOT'd like it before but may have gone to a friendly tester.

Any help appreciated, trying to get my head around a Jeep that someone else has built and just opening multiple cans of worms at the moment, don't ask about wiring  :die:

My exhaust does as yours does and ends up just in front of the back axle and its never been mentioned at MOT time.

Yes you're right Clayt has his inboard and the hood up and no steel firewall....I think not having the filler inside is the most important thing.....Clayt has a panel exiting his window in the soft top.

Exhaust is a bit of a worry.....cos I remember when Cockney Boy's jeep was in previous hands and had an under near the axle exit and it was a hazzard to ride in........ Hopefully yours is different....
Just saying.....
Best of luck . :icon_super:

Neither should be a problem as long as they are secure and leak free.

That's good news. I have to put a cat on the exhaust so might see if I can make up an add-on side pipe bit if they do get funny.

Fuel tank is fine, filler is cut into the body panel and it's all secure and leak free -might need some new filler and vent pipes if I'm being really fussy. It's also not visible easily from an external inspection.

Looks like it's just the crazy wiring with a million splices to deal with to make sure all the lights work  :icon_rolleyes:

Has anyone got a wiring diagram or FSM for a 93 YJ?
