XJ rear suss

Just wondering..... what sort of money are we looking at, ball park figure is fine, to supply and fit the TD springs to my 4.0L.

I believe they sit slightly higher than than the petrol , is this correct? I'm hoping it'd lift the rear of the car slightly when towing the van. Or is there a better solution?

Is it something you can do yourself or best left to the professionals?

diesel springs are def the way to go...........think they can be had for around £80 a piece from lighthouse....

not a hard job if you are reasonably mech minded!! :wink:

As KD said, not a difficult job at all.

Just need basic tools, a good jack, axle stands and a torque wrench.

I've got all those things, just lacking the mech mind :wink:

Sorry if it sounds stupid, but is it a dangerous job ie are the springs under tension once the weight has been taken off them?
Will they fit straight on or do they need modifying?

only dangerous if you are underneath em when you take the bolts out!!! :lol:

they will just bolt straight on!!!

When I got mine a month ago, it was about 250 quid delivered (from lighthouse), cus youre gonna need the springs, bushings, u-bolts, nuts and sprung washers. Got the receipt somewhere. And then there's the spacers for the front too...... about 40 quid I think I paid.

Beware of pro-comp stuff.  Fitted 3.5" lift to customer's XJ recently - Bottom leafs on rear springs splay out when going off road.  All bolts f'ing tight.  Explorer have no answers for this as yet. :?    I suspect I will have to fabricate some kind of 'U' braket to sort this.  Diesel springs are tough as old boots and will cure the 4.0L XJ sagging syndrome.  Unless You are planning to Lift your truck this is the way to go.  New U bolts/nuts are a must though!

Hi Steve.  No.  The kit I fitted was the stage 2 3.5" kit.  The springs in your kit look exactly the same as the ones I have fitted to my XJ. (along with 1.5" lift block & 2" extended shackles!).  As you say they are very good although mine did settle by about 1/2 an inch after a couple of months.  If you have an alternative supplier to Explorer I would be interested in hearing from you.  I Don't find explorer very helpful (depending who you speak to!).

My Skyjacker ones did the same.  Well one did.  I fitted some of the clips that come with CJ add-a-leaf kits.  (Thanks Bubba :wink: ).
