Try a stud extractor, if that fails, drill out and re-tap..

That's the problem Ezz. I usually have a long way to drive on tarmac to events.

I've not had one on an XJ for about a year - one of the lugs on the axle axle snapped and fell off the disconnect (losing the pin)

It's OK.

Take it steady with the caravan on though (1800Kg) - but it's fine

Buy a decent drill bit and cutting oil and go for it, at least it's done right then. Pain in arse but it won't always be in your mind if it's done right.

The ones next to the grill are a nightmare and mine are just under the front edge.

Most likely you will need to take the grill off to drill straight. Mine are tapped oversized since the nut is welded in the frame and the threads were shot.

I only put the sway bar back in place to pass the import inspection. It is not even connected to the axle but it is on the jeep and the bushings are in good shape and that's what it takes to pass. My jeep doesn't spend much time on the road and I am used to it driving like a drunk phone box. I also had to drill and tap my threads oversized since the nuts are captured in the frame and mine were exposed for years and rusted.

drill out

stud extractors are fine but if one breaks you are well and truly stuffed as its even harder to drill those out

remove it - not fitted cant fail it on mot. the jeeps not a race car so a bit of body roll may be odd to start with but you adjust your driving to suit.

Not a TJ or coil sprung Jeep BUT

After lifting the YJ I took anti roll bar off the front and track bars off bot the front and rear.....and cut brackets, off frame......never a prob for the MOT.....

It never handled like a car before and after with wider tyres stiffer springs and the junk removed actually handled better :steeringwheel:

Took the TJ over to Dtooth yesterday with a view to all the associated agro of drilling bolt out etc.

Richard hit the centre punch to get a starting point for drilling and the bolt and captive nut fell out.

Result!!!!
