What size O Ring for IAC '95 Jeep XJ
« on: March 02, 2017, 10:47:03 PM »

Does anybody know the size for the O Ring that is on the IAC body?  I cleaned my throttle body, IAC and replaced TPS. The O Ring looks loose and is not a tight fit into the IAC body, like it should be according to youtube videos. Mine is to big to sit inside the ridge on the body, should it be like that or fit in it?

Thanks for any help.

IAC should be the same as on my TJ. If I can find my spare IAC I can sort an O-ring.

PM your address. I've found my spare IAC. I'll find a match in my toolbox on Monday and stick one in the post for you. It seems to be 3/4" x 1/16th but I'll confirm that when I get to my digital calipers.

You lucky man. Had just one that size in work. It's in the postbox for you. Thanks for the offer of payment but the O-ring is free and I wouldn't have the cheek to ask for the cost of a stamp.

Thank you for the O ring. I got it today, I honestly don't mind sorting payment for postage and something for the O ring.  It has saved me having to purchase a new IAC, just to get it.

When I cleaned the throttle body, the IAC looked like it had never been cleaned, the crud was solid and so was the chamber it moves in. I used a babies bottle brush with a small end to clean it out. Changed the TPS (what fun getting the original off). Fitted it back on, the connector was loose to it, so EML came on, sorted that. Now it idles I think around 750.  I did the clearing code routine(does this clear error codes, or if nothing wrong are they self clearing straight away), adjusted the IAC according to service manual.  Now only got to remove error code 14 (got to find out if it means high or low voltage) replaced MAP, so beginning to think it might be the sensor wire from it to PCM.  Got good vacuum, checked with guage, brakes are also great. No other error codes from the sensors that share same 5 Volt input wire from PCM.

Thanks once again for the O ring.

Take care
Addy.

My 97 TJ can display OBDI codes in the cluster even though it's OBDII and can give Pcodes with a reader. According to my FSM the OBDI code 14 can be high or low voltage, or no 5V to MAP sensor. It's a pity you can't get OBDII codes as each of those faults has it's own code.

The wires are spliced together to go to the different sensors and it's possible the crimp could be bad going to the MAP sensor so although there are no problems reported with other sensors it might be worth checking for 5V at the MAP connector. And, since you had a lot of crud in the IAC chamber you might want to look at the little rubber hose that links the underside of the MAP sensor to the throttle body and make sure that's not blocked or at all leaky.

I think most codes should go away on there own if the PCM doesn't see the fault again.

Glad I could help you out with the O-ring.

No it is a 95 which as I understand can only do codes by Check light and key routine.  Checked all vacuum hoses, changed
CCV's.  Did 5volt check at Map it is OK.  If vac is removed from map, the engine stumbles almost to stopping. Put vac back on rev a little then engine works ok.  Did a Fuel Rail Pressure test today.  31psi with vac on Fuel Pressure Regulator, 39psi with it off.  Fuel leak down test did not do so well, 30mins as service manual said when checked it showed zero psi.  (Suggestions are check valve?).  The only thing that I am not sure of is, when I rev the engine in Park the pressure gauge, drops for a second or two, then goes up but not massive,(not sure of revs as was doing it by myself from engine bay).  Should the pressure go up with the revs or stay roughly around the 31psi mark? If it should go up, does that mean the fuel pump is on its way out(it could possibly be the original still on, the fuel filter was) which might be the Map code error, or the Fuel Pressure Regulator? I don't want to keep throwing things at jeep hoping it solves the problem.  If it is the pump, what is the best make to get for my 1995, from the UK.  I do have Jeepy Mart in bookmarks. :hysterical:

Thanks to anyone for any suggestions or advice.

Pressure dropping could indicate a bad pump. Reading the FSM it states if the pressure gauge hose is pinched the pressure should rise to 75 PSI within two seconds, so dropping for a couple of seconds doesn't seem right. Especially with the warning that pressure could reach 100 psi.

If you do decide to replace the pump Bosch is good and I know they were the OEM supplier for the TJ era. You could check out http://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/jeep,1995,cherokee,4.0l+l6,1180268 for prices from various manufacturers. There's a 5% discount floating around in one of these threads too. I would also consider Carter and Denso brands from rockauto too. You could get a cheaper pump/kit in the UK but you'd have to decide about brand/cost for yourself.
