Hi all,
Brand spaking new on here having just purchased a lovely low mileage 2002 Grand Cherokee.
Unfortunatly it appears that I need some advice already on a couple of problems!
1. Regardless of how high the heating setting, I only get cold air on the passenger side. Blend doors?
2. The vehicle doesnt seem to want to "kick down" and wont change down readily when going up hills. Is this correct? Can it be adjusted?
I have had a search on both of these subjects and whilst theres plenty of info available, its difficult to know what the "real" answer is!

Blend door failure is a very common heater problem on the WJ. There are a few things that could cause your auto problems. Apart from the obvious transmission fluid level/condition checks, is there a fault code being generated?

I don't know what engine/transmission you have, but it's possible that the kickdown/TV cable from the transmission might need adjusting. On a 4.0 WJ the adjustment is next to the throttle body and Google should have detailed instructions on how to adjust it!


I don't have any idea though what setup the V8s or the diesels have.

Hi, yeah should have said.
The vehicle is a 2.7CRD auto.
Can the kickdown cable be adjusted on this?
In terms of a faultcode, how would this present itself? I have no warning lights etc on the dash......

If you switch the ignition on and off three times, it may produce a fault code on your speedometer display. I will stand corrected if this is different with a diesel. I've only ever had 4.0 ltrs.

Just thought. Have a pen and paper to write any codes down unless you have an excellent memory. There may be more than one.

Ok, so a bit more info.
Whilst I can access all gears whilst normal driving, it wont rev past 2000rpm to change up until it reaches the top gear.
Also, its completely gutless when going up hill and essentially wont accelerate regardless of how hard you put your foot down.
Looked at the fault codes and found the following:
P1685 - SKIM invalid key
P0100 - Mass/ volume airflow circuit
P0235 Turbo boost sensor circuit A
P0201 - Injector 1 circuit
P0202 - Injector 2 circuit
P0203 - Injector 3 circuit
P0204 - Injector 4 circuit

Now, I have no idea how long those codes have been on their for and if they relate to any past issues.

Is it pulling away in 1st or does it pull off in 3rd

Pulls away in first and goes through all the gears, just a real lack of power to change up.

Problem now solved!
Took it to my local garage, they cleared the old codes, test drove it and then plugged back in.
Turns out it was a poor connection to the fuel pressure switch that had put the vehicle in limp mode?
Fixed and now running sweet!
