So, as per the new members section, here's our 1995 4.0 project XJ.
Generally in good all round condition, lots of MOT and currently being 'bedded in' to the family fleet.
The plan is for me and my boy (15) to carry out a rolling refurd/resto - which will hopefully keep him positively occupied and further his mechanical engineering 'apprenticeship'.
Cracked hinges and knackered mirror were going to be first on the list, but the oil pressure sender has promoted itself to the top of the list. I knew it was iffy, because the gauge was all over the place, but yesterday the sender parted, the diaphragm ruptured and it pumped all it's oil over the street!
This was accompanied by clouds of oily smoke as the oil hit the exhaust, and as we pulled up, clatters of protest from the tappets as their oil supply was interrupted. All very dramatic!

Found a bolt to temporarily blank the sender point, refilled with oil and all is well thankfully.
New sender should be here tomorrow, then we can get back on with the plan!
