Evening Dastards!
I've noticed a noise which is getting more frequent, which sounds a lot like you're trying to get it into gear without using the clutch, so like a fairly fast grinding.
Very similar to the noise in this video from 1:45 - 2:03 (link to exact place in video:

Full Video:
The noise happens sporadically, regardless of a hot engine or cold engine, sometimes at the start of the journey, sometimes middle, sometimes end and certainly not all of the time. Generally it will happen, then stop, then nothing for a few miles, then sitting at traffic lights it will start making the noise again.
I initially thought it was something to do with the throw-out bearing / flywheel etc, but when the noise is happening, it does not change pitch or stop etc if you use the clutch.
I then saw a video showing a that a faulty starter motor can make the same noise when the smaller gear doesn't retract and hits the flywheel, so I was convinced it was the starter motor, however I then noticed that the noise gets quieter to the point of not being that noticeable when you turn the Air Conditioning on. If you turn the A/C back off and wait it will start doing it again, then as it is making the noise you can turn the A/C back on and the noise is much quieter.
So I think it is coming from this area, the A/C compressor, which as far as I know is powered by a shaft which comes out of the back of the power steering pump, then into a clutch mechanism.
Has anyone had a similar issue?
Can you change just the clutch on its own?
Where would be best to look for parts?
