Not a jeep question I'm afraid...
« on: June 25, 2006, 05:27:01 PM »

A while ago I nearly bought a second-hand Mitsubishi L200 through my own company to take advantage of the van tax rules.

What put me off was the service intervals of 4500 miles

My father-in-law has just bought an '02 Shogun Sport 2.5TD which I believe has exactly the same running gear and injun as the L200 and I expected it to have the same service intervals. The history only shows it being done every ~10k miles though. Does anybody know for sure? I see from the mitsubishi website that brand new Shogun sports do indeed have service intervals of 9k.

Bit odd...  :?

I think it is something to do with the oil that is used. Vikki has a Shogun Sport (54 plate) and it is every 10k.

It could well be due to how the vehicle will be used.  The Shogun is a car the L200 a commercial vehicle.  I guess they reckon it will have a harder life.

If you look in the Jeep handbook, it says the oil needs changing every 7500 miles...............or every 3000 if it gets used off road or for lots of heavy towing.

I think from what I remember being told that if you use synthetic oils from new then the sevice intervals could be stretched out to the longer period.

TJ you're right on the money, I used to have an L200.  Service interval is as you say 4.5k normally but with synthetic oil is stretched to 9k.  There's still an advice note (or at least there used to be) in the handbook advising 4.5k still if you're using the vehicle to haul stuff up mountains etc.

Engine and lube technology are advancing so rapidly these days giving us longer and longer between services.  The wife's BM'r goes 17000 miles between services
