Timing chain Change!
« on: October 27, 2006, 01:26:20 AM »

A few months ago i noticed a rattle comming from the front of the jeep, more so when on tick over   when i was standing away from the jeep opening the drive gates.  on inspection  this was comming from the timing chain case!  so i orderd a new chain, sprockets, tensioner, gasket. looking on different forums about this problem people seemed to live with it and never had a problem uther than the rattle, as the set up is bullet proof!  not me this noise was getting on my tits!!!  when my parts arrived i began the strip down,  removed the sprockets  chain tensioner and found  they were as good as the new ones  apart from the tensioner!  this was well scored from the chain compared to the new one!   having bought new i fitted new but could have got away with just a tensioner. i fitted thease without removing the sump, but couldn't fit the tensioner bracket as you can't get to the 2 bolts with sump on so i removed the   c   clip on the tensioner arm  pulled of the old and replaced with the new arm,  rebuilt  and rattle gone!!!  hope this helps... try a tensioner first!!!!....cya
