does anyone have a picture instruction on the process of adding a add a leaf system to a leaf spring pack safely ?

had the td leaf spring packs delivered from lighthouse last week. Just pondering whether to order the RE lift kit from FTE this side of christmass or not, but want to be sure on how to fit the add a leaf safely

I've got a Rusty's lift myself, so here's an article on installing their 2" add-a leaf lift http://http://members.tripod.com/Jeep_n_John/lift.html. Should be similar for any add-a-leaf.

With the bonkers exchange rate at the moment, I'd be ordering a lift from the States.

am i safe to guess the add a leaf is positioned (sandwiched) in between the existing leafs with a longer one above and a shorter one below ?

Ya that's right. They go under the top leaf, above the rest. Don't fit it if you can do shackles or blocks, they will make your truck ride like an empty one ton dually truck!!

Don't go add-a-leaf is the short answer. The RE full replacement rear spring kit is only slightly dearer than the add-a-leaf version and gives more lift and a better ride.

How about original spec leaf springs, ie explorer, plus 1" lift shackles at the rear??? :?:

I need to stop my cherokee draggging its arse around, and maybe lift it a bit but keeping original size wheels>

Looking at your avatar picture, if you fitted a set of XJ diesel rear springs, it'd lift the rear about 3 inches.

This is my 96 xj with saggy springs and stock wheels

And this is the same car with a different set of stock wheels, but they are the same size (do you recognise them Mike?) after fitting Diesel springs from Mansfield 4x4 and a Rocky Roads budget lift. I would defo go for a lift imported from the US wit the exchange rates at the mo

We got an astounding amount of lift, and previously the axle had been rubbing on the bump stops :shock:

Hiya everyone, I havent posted before (enjoy reading the banter though). this thread interested me as i had the same dilema when i bought my cherokee in august. The back end was really sad and seriously needed a lift so i could get decent tyres on it.

as i arnet made of money - rather than go for an expensive lift kit i (for the first time in my life) did what my dad told me to do (he's a mech engineer so knows his stuff). i rang and asked a local auto spring manufacturer to make me some custom springs - i just rang and told them year and make of the car and asked for 3" over standard rear leafs BUT i told them i did not want extra leafs as i still wanted good articulation (i didnt want to feel like i was on a bone shaker) so i needed them ''more curved''. the bloke knew exactly what i meant and made them up for me in a week (£65 each). I can really recommend this method as the car feels ace and the lift was great And even i can change a simple leaf spring - i did have to buy the bushes from the dealer though but i think they were only about £20-£30. i also had to get extended shocks and brake line but the whole thing was way under £100 all together and easy to fit at home myself.
