Wierd handling
« on: December 19, 2006, 07:17:26 PM »

As I think we all know, most modified Jeeps go round corners like fat Labradors but mine is doing strange things in a straight line.
It's effectively rear steer, when I lift off the throttle it veers to the right and when I accererate it veers to the left. Mot much, but noticable.

It's a 2.5 YJ, 4" Procrap lift, no lockers, 33" BFGs, disconnected and no rear track bar. Tyre pressures are equal all round and it doesn't effect the steering wheel position, just moves the back end around
And I've only noticed it over the last few days.

Any ideas? Shagged shocks? Loose axle U-bolts? Chassis breaking in half (again)?
I'm not unduly worried as most of the mechanical bits, suspension, drivetrain and chassis are going in the bin anyway, just a bit of a head scratcher!

Broken center pin on rear spring? Or if your chassis has broken before check it.

though it might feel like the rear is everything tight up front? i get a small amount of the same thing but there is a locker in the tail so it is hard to narow it down to just one thing. like ding says check the center location pin on the springs. i did break one of these at cheapfest this year.

Check and make sure you don't have a vauxhall astra stuck underneath :finga:

Is it visually square all round? And not like Jim's was in France..

Seriously though it might be worth checking all the brakes to make sure they are'nt sticking on anywhere!

First thing I did was check to see if the axle had moved as Jim's did, but no signs of it. And the brakes don't fucking stick when you stand on 'em, so it's not that!

Hadn't thought of the centre pin, will check at the weekend. I suppose it could be partly due to play in the steering box too, it has enough for everyone, but it's just strange how I've only noticed it over the last couple of days  :smt102
