After reading post's saying NOT to use gl5 oil in the manual cherokee gearbox and the owners manual saying use gl3 then later in the book gl5? i decided to have a look round the net for a answer. It seems the american military use gl5 in there vehicles, the reason for not using gl5 posted is additives in the oil corrode, wear out, brass parts in the gearbox prematurely mainly (sulphur) , I contacted the manufacturers carlub and asked if this was true, the short answer was GL5 is the correct oil for jeep cherokee gearbox and will have no problems only use up to 2000 year. I have now changed my oil and used the dreaded GL5!...........CYA
