Diff Oil??? 85w90 or 75w90??
« on: September 25, 2007, 06:06:17 PM »

What would be the effect of putting 85w 90 in the diff instead of 75w90?
Would it really make any difference?

I Want to change the front diff oil on my 1994 cherokee 4ltr and as I work for mercedes I have plenty of the stuff, surely it would make no differance.

Any thought son this anyone? I know it would be thicker at cold temperatures but the same when warmed up, plus it must be better than the syrup that is in there at the moment.

Cheers, JON

nothing to worry about.

as you said, slightly thicker at colder temps, but the same once at normal operating temperature.

if you can get the stuff for free, go for it.

I know its not the stuff you already have, and its kinda pricy but Royal Purple is the best stuff out there.  I had to buy some at my last change because it was the only thing I could get.  A few days later my diff plug got ripped out while I was wheelin, and I drove about 50 miles with out any diff fluid.  I pulled the cover and had absolutly no dammage.  Needless to say I switched all of the fluids in my Jeep to RP, and have actually gotten 3 MPG better gas mileage.
Thats my 2 cents.
