hi. can anyone out there please help, I have a 1997 xj 2.5td with a np231 TC, It's making a loud banging noise when i use 4wd. The noise is from the TC so i spose it needs a new chain. What i need to know is the part number for the chain so i can get one from the states.
Any info would be much appreciated. Cheers

Are you fitting the chain? it's a straight forward job a bit fiddly in places, don't know the chain part number but will have a look. you will need this link to give you a idea of whats going on inside.

Yes i will fit the chain myself. i'm a mechanic so i can use the ramps at work. Never delved into a TC before though. Should be good fun. I've heard you can do it in sittu. Cheers for the link.

I removed the case but i think you could do it with out, you will need to remove the center nut on the output to the front prop so you can move the shaft and sprocket in and out to get the replacement chain on! that would be part number 12 on mikes link and dont forget out put oil seals.......cya try this place
