xj 4.0 93' engine cooling fan

just wondered if it was common for the cooling fan to operate intermitantly during normal engine temps? or is it because of the size of the engine?

You have two fans. One which is belt driven and works all the time, and an auxillary electric one.

The electric one will cut in as needed under normal circumstances, but if you have the heater controls set to one of the demist settings, or if you have the aircon on, then it will cycle on and off every 20-30 seconds to dissipate the heat from the aircon system.  Aircon is switched on when you select the demist settings, so you'll get a puddle underneath when you park up too.

Humidity condenses on the a/c evaporator and drips from the drain underneath.
