XJ central locking & diff seals
« on: January 24, 2008, 02:30:25 PM »

I've got a 1996 Cherokee  limited 2.5 Diesel.
It looks like theres a sensor for central locking in the roof lining. Like half a sphere about 1.5cm in diameter.
When I bought it I only got a key. Is it possible to get an aftermarket blipper? I guess I'd have to prove ownership or anyone could go about unlocking cars!

Also, I've been told I need to get "Differential seals for where the propshaft goes in." Where can I get them and how much are they? Does anyone have a part number?

Cheers, Dan

You need the old pre '97 infra red remote. It has 2 buttons and is kind of coffin shaped. You can still buy them from Jeep dealers or they sometimes come up on Ebay. It is also the only one that the Jeep is easily user programmable to accept.

 Here's one.....

You need to say what type of seal you want. I assume you mean the pinion seal, but on which axle? They're usually around a tenner I think. Get them from Jeep or try Lighthouse Jeep.

thanks for the ebay link.
Seal-wise I'm under the impression that it's both front and back diffs that are leaky (As well as the diesel tank!) and it's the propshaft going into the diff, rather than the half-shafts going out to the wheels. Does that sound sensible?

I've seen some new keyfobs online for the jeep, aftermarket Items I think. will they be any good?

Pinion seals then.

Don't know about aftermarket remotes, you'd have to ask the seller.
