Hi i have recently replaced an injector on my 2000 td cherokee as when i bought it someone had obviously snapped the drain off and tried welding the injector and it leaked (wonder why) anyway i replaced the injector but the one i took out had a wire attached to it ,and i replaced it with one without , question will this cause a problem ? whats the wire for ? it might be me but it doesnt seem as fast as before can anyone help !!

yup it will be a problen as its the wire is somkind of pulse back the the ecu it is mucho pricey compared to the others i am sure the xj owners will be along shortly to confirm or corect me good luck dood

as Bubba said, its the pulse sensor for the ecu, etc

Number 1 injector should have the sensor on it - without it it will not go over 2000RPM (in safe mode).

I think the injector is about £150/170 for the first one - probably hence the bodge repair :roll:

They are also prone to going down if you jet wash the engine.

Take it to a diesel injection specialist, they may be able to recondition it as injectors are stripable

where the little  pipe was that usually is blocked off has got a nasty weld on it so the body of the injector is probly u/s

Probably but they may have a body you can put the workings into possibly

it ran like a train till i changed the injector which was welded / leaking so its the injector!   funny though it doesnt get very warm either

No. 1 injector needle sensor is used to sychronise the injection system for top dead centre and confirm engine rpm. in conjunction with the crank sensor. Without it the Bosch controller will go into limp home mode, run on reduced power and log a trouble code.

Yes, this : Starts & revs fine when standing, then the rpm deteriate up through the gears when driving, down to 2000 rpm in fifth = 60mph

I have the Bosch no'1 injector part# :0432217249 - Don't ask me how much as I haven't sourced one yet?

The Bosch centre quoted me £280+vat to do the job (part included) :-D

Doesn't seem like too bad a price to me. Cheapest I can see on the web is €321 + €16 shipping.

Thanks for the advice 'Mk 1' - Have the 'vm' specialist bookmarked - Seems whoever you ring has to go to 'Bosch' for spares - The quote I had was for a brand new injector,  they don't recondition the no'1 with the needle sensor?

the No.1 injector is not a servicable unit due to the resistance in the wire which is measured by the ecu. the manual does state a two figures which the injector resistance reading (ohms) should be between. if this falls outside these figures then the injector is binned. all the other injectors can be serviced with no problem. when i had mine i added a resistor to one of the wires to get the correct reading, worked with no problems. the downside was soldering to the wires as the wires dont like solder and need some heat before the solder wil take.

Dave, Thanks for the info.

Can you remember what the resistence figure (ohms) was?
Would it be easier to (bench) solder the resister onto a new wire, cut the sensor wire from the injector & connect in-between?

I'm willing to try anything to save a few quid, seeing the sensor's buggered anyhow, nothing to lose...
