Hi,

As a complete newbie, I did do a search regarding LPG conversions on the forum, and retrieved some good information.

However, still in fear of asking something already answered elsewhere, I do ask the following:

1. Due to likely changes in duty on LPG, is paying for a conversion still viable over say the next 2/3 years?. I use my road car (BMW 3 series) for business use, covering approx 13,000 miles per year. As I work in the waste industry, there are times I have to drive into areas I would prefer not to take the Beemer. Thinking the Cherokee would be better suited.

2. I have been quoted by a local LPGA workshop approx £2500 to convert, using a underslung fitting with new petrol tank & LPG tank. Whilst I would agree that this is possibly the neatest installation, I have seen pics on the internet, of a 'donut' or round tank, installed on one side of the boot, matching the spare wheel on the other. Are these any good?

Don't be frightened to ask any question you like mate, we don't bite (that much   ). Doesn't matter if someone asked it before. The sometimes random nature of even tech threads means that it can sometimes be difficult to find answers by searching the forum.

ah the old fuel duty going up so wont be any cheeper than petrol line, people were saying that when i did mine 10 years ago

Im toying with the idea that if, i say IF i get another jeep 4.0 litre soon then I want to convert, but I will do it myself then get it checked at a specialists for a certificate

my very long term plan will be to have one of my scramblers running on gas with a big tank behind the cab

Been hearing the same thing for 5 years, spent the last 3 years filling up my XJ for less than 1/2 price. Guess you can't believe everything you hear.

I had my 4 litre Grand Cherokee converted 2 years ago by Envirogas (http://http://www.envirogas.co.uk) in Tamworth. I recommend them very highly ! The existing tank was dropped out and replaced by a 60 litre gas tank and a 4 gallon petrol tank. The conversion was very neat, cost around £2000 and has easily paid for itself  - I've done 53,000 miles since the conversion. I used to get 22 mpg on petrol, I now get 20.6 mpg on gas and haven't noticed any drop in acceleration or speed.
