TJ Starter Motor
« on: May 17, 2008, 02:03:46 PM »

My starter has decided not to work.

Last weekend, it turned on the 2nd attept of turning the key, now it won't even turn at all.

The battery voltage seems to be fine.

Is there anything I can do to try and get the Jeep started, at least so I can drive to my local friendly mechanic.  I assume I will need a new starter.

Where do I aim the big hammer  (haven't got a clue where the starter is located)?  Could it be a bad electrical connection?

I've just been told to keep trying, and after 2 minutes it started.

it is most likely in need of a strip down and clean and grease. the solenoid may well be your problem mate. the starter is located on the drivers side of the gearbox bell housing and easy enough to get off. just make sure you disconnect the battery before you take off the starter and you can easily ground em out.
