Easy one here.......

I recently swapped my rear brake pads on the 2001 WJ.....
checked with Jeep.... £65 +vat,
checked local car parts shop (Nyanza in Coventry) £24 all in for a set of 4.
Bargain.
They had a plate on the back that I guessed was an anti squeal device.

Piece of pish to fit, even I managed it with no issues. :evil:  :evil:  :evil:
coming from the rear. It's definitly the brakes as I had them of again and applied a thin layer of Copper Grease to the end of the piston and the back of the pad..... the rubbery looking layer on the plate had worn through to the metal. But the squeal is back again.
I can't bare having the windows open as it's just constant when the wheels are rotating, stops once brakes are applied, and stopped for a while after the application of copper grease.

Am I paying the price for buying cheaper pads?? ......... "buy cheap, buy twice" springs to mind..... :oops:  
Or is there something I can do to stop the squeal?

Not the same make vehicle I know, but bought cheap disc pads for the wifes merc, they were ok for the first thousand miles or so and then when she braked had the most annoying squeal no matter if you braked hard or just touched the pedal  :-(   because the wifes whinging was more annoying than the squeal on the brakes

do the pads have a chamfer on the leading and trailing edge of the pad ?. they realy should have but some of the cheaper makes of pads dont. also check for a trapped stone

They do have a chamfer front and rear..... and no stones

Try and get more rubber pads from the supplier, or try  searching for anti-squeal pads etc, on google.

I have some from a different car/pad which I could send you if it comes to that...( the details on the back of them are:
3M 468MP 200MP Adhesive. The pads are 85mm long X 50mm wide and less than 1mm thick)

you can also remove the pads and clean the metal surfaces then coat in a thin layer of rtv silicon sealent.
let that go of then put pads back in.
the only problem is having to leave the pads for about a day for the rtv to go of.
