Rotton Fuel Tank
« on: June 23, 2008, 05:29:32 PM »

Just found out that my fuel tank is very rotten (not seen when in position).
Anyone have any idea if all second hand ones will have sufferd the same or will I have to get new? It's a rear fill on the n/s. I new things would get spenny.

Hi Greggmo,
I sent my beloved jeep down to the garage to have a look at the leak, got the call saying they did not want to drop the tank due to rust so mine can't be plastic. It looks very standard, not messed with. Got to fined a second hand one coz a new one will be mucho' $ . Will phone Jeep dealer a.m.

:imwitstupid:

These plastic tanks have a habit of leaking around the breather seals and the pump gasket. They were subject to a safety recall, but it may not have been done (mine hadn't)

Repair involves dropping the tank and skid, replacing the seals and the tank straps that you will have snapped the studs off on removal, and refitting.

Or, take it to a main dealer and get them to check via the chassis number if it was subject to a recall, then let them get the grazed knuckles/ crap in the eyes/ raging arse with it. For free :smt023

The skid is thick steel, not the usual tin so I would imagine it's just surface rust anyway.

YOU ARE ALL CORRECT it does have a plastic tank ! The whole area doesn't look, as the garage said, like it would all break up into a pile of rust when they removed it. They do Land Rovers and it looks like they don't like Jeeps. I'll take it somwere else.....!
