2002 jeep grand cherokee crd wheel and tyre advice

I am a virgin jeeper so try to bear with me & sorry if this has been answered a million times. I just cant seem to find it. Lots of info on pre 2002
I have a standard 2002 jeep grand cherokee crd. I think thats refered to as a WG here on Birty's
It currently has 17" rims but can anyone tell me what if any other 16" rims will fit?
I am looking for a set of 16" Insa's or Colway's remoulds purly for off road.
Any not lifted WG's out there running 235/85R16 or are they too tall?
Any not lifted WG's out there running 265/75R16 or are they too wide?
Any not lifted WG's out there running 750R16?

235-85's will rub on the front without a lift
750's are too narrow

Get some 16" from a 99-on WG and stick some 235-70-16s insa turbo saharas on

Could anyone tell me if the rims from a 99-0n WJ will also fit?

Ref: 235-85's will rub on the front without a lift
would ajusting the steering stops cure the rubbing
or is it the arches arnt high enough?

WJ and WG are the same, WG is the European built version, WJ US spec.

they catch on the rear of the front arch when turning the wheel slightly (about 1/4 lock), only about 1in clearance with 245-70-16's I tried a 235-85-16 Mud and it rubbed alot, steering stops wouldn't help

Get a 2" budget boost. very cheap and allows 245/70R16s to clear.

That cleared my muddied water.
So I am lookin for rims from a 99-on WJ or WG
Trust me to get a jeep with different rims to everyone else
What is the goin price for 5 offroader rims?

for the suggestion for a 2" lift

Heers me thinkings
Seems most popular cheep remould rubber is 235 or 265
and 85's will rub even with a 2" lift
So the tallist I can go with or without a 2" lift is a 70 profile & I hope my life never depends on the difference between a 235 v 245.
If I knew the 2" lift would clear the 235/85's I would go for that.
IMHO
1" of hight (under the axles) is worth any amount of width on anything but sand.
Its lookin very like the 235-70-16s insa turbo saharas are me best bet.

But
has anyone run the 235/70R16 COLWAY REMOULD MUDTRAX on stock suspension. I have to say they are as tough as old boots.

235-70-16's are cheap as they are Disco standard fit, Insa Turbo Saharas are very good, quiet on road and very good on wet tarmac. Colway MTs are hard to find now and noisey on the road

Anything over 245/70 will also give a noticable loss of performance as your overall gearing will be taller.

Are you set on going with re-moulds? I can't help thinking that you'd be better with a set of a less-marketed tyre brand's new tyres versus re-moulds. Even the good ones seem to be noisy and tread wear can be terrible, either fast of making the tyres even noisier.

     Tis only cus I ran Colway's on my disco and found the sidewalls very tough. If the Insa Turbo Saharas are as good as you say ill be very happy. What more could I want.

What she wont climb in 1st L ill get a landy to pull me up  :wink:
       I would fit dumpers if I could as these boots are only for off road. Insa Turbo Saharas look about as good as Ill get for my money unless anyone knows better :?:

I run 245/75R16 BFG MTs with a 2" lift no problem and had them on a year before i got the lift. They only rubbed when flexing hard. The diesels sit slightly higher than my V8 so should have no probs. Standard tyre size for 16" wheels was usually 245/70R16 - 'bout 29.5".

I've used a couple of brands of remould in the past but not Insa. I've always found, and others seem to confirm, that life span isn't as long on remoulds so spending £60 on a remould versus £90 on a new tyre is normally outweighed over the life of the tyres. I've also seen them more likely to puncture offroad (sidewalls).

I'd recommend something like the new Kumho mud terrain, that seems to be advertised cheaply and other makes like Cooper can be found to be surprisingly cheap in certain sizes.

It just seems like a mismatch, putting remoulds on a WG. It's your vehicle though, I'm only providing an opinion   :wink:

Just back from a few days holls in me camper so please excuse the late reply
Ta for the offer.
Was passin a scrappers on sat and spotted a fire damaged grand cherry on his low loader with 16"s
Bought all 5 for a ton, Did not actually mention 5 but hay, a set is a set of 5 in my book. Had to take them off myself and boy were they black. I know tyres are supposed to be black but it was debatable where the rubber stopped and the alloy started. So as compensation for my now black everything, I also got the jack, the wheelbrace, 16 nuts, 4 locking nuts, the locknut adaptor and shouted thanks, see ya again :shock: They are defo not mud tyres so I will have to wear them down before fitting nobblies. Also the alloys turned out surprisingly good. Couple of blisters on every one but then I did only want them for off road. O yes and a bottle of carpet shampoo and 2 car smellies sorted the mess in the camper but its gona take more than a happy meal to sort the missus. Dee wassent to happy bout sleeping beside something that smelled like a bonfire and them wheels, whew they dident half pong as well :-(
But hay, dident I do well :lol:  :-D  :-D
