fill up before you get to the 1/4 tank or slow down for left hand bends

The tank sender unit may be faulty. this was a common failure, the gauge used to stop at 1/4 tank and then the Jeep would run out of petrol. Replacement senders available on Ebay but it's a fuel tanlk out job.

HI Thanks for all the replyes . Put £40 of petrol in today gauge reading just under full so it must be a faulty sender cos we all know that £40 will not fill a jeeps tank .

Not a bad job to drop the tank, helps if there are two of you to support the think, oh and you need a pipe spanner that will undo about a 6" nut (not stilsons tho)

Be prepared to replace a pipe or 2, sometimes they dont take kindly to being moved, I speak from experience with the TJ

Fair weather mechanic - that's wot U are sir!
For peace of mind or when driving with the missus I'd suggest a petrol can lashed in the boot too! Size to suit worst case calculated run to nearest petrol station in snow and or rain!
