Idle uneven and decent jeep garage

Hi all,

Car went for service (4.7 V8 Limited 1999) about 6 months ago to a "normal" garage. Came out fine but a week or two later I noticed the idle speed was at about 600 rather than the 400 it usually was. Occasionally it drops back to 400 but then goes back up again, not so much of a problem as an annoyance but would like to fix it if a diy fix is possible. Im assuming adjusting the throttle stop screw isnt a good idea as its all controlled by little black boxes these days. I didi the ignition key on/off trick and it isnt showing any faults.
Also, if anyone knows of a decent place to take it for service/repairs/inspection in the north west (east lancs, BB) area it would be great if you could pass me on the details as I'd rather take it to someone that knows jeeps rather than just a normal garage (I refuse point blank to pay almost £100/hour for a main dealer)

v8's normally idle anywhere around the 400- 600 rpm range, 4 poppers usually idle higher cos of the  smaller displacement,so I wouldn't worry too much about it.Usually there is an idle adjustment screw somewhere on the throttle body but I am sure Mike Pavelin will be along shortly to  tell you what to do and how it can be adjusted.

i dont think you can adjust this manually as the airflow sensors etc will alter the fueling and cause the change in rpm

There is no idle adjustment. Idle speed is determined by the engine management. Do not adjust the stop on the throttle body, this will take the throttle position sensor off the idle position and cause a loss of idle control.
